Change the Language of a Poll or Survey

With addpoll.com you can easily change the language of the default messages and navigation buttons for your polls and surveys. What is even better, you can change them to any language you want to!

How to Add a New Language

Adding a new language with addpoll.com is very simple and convenient. Once you add a language, you can use it for all your future polls and surveys, if you want to! Please start by clicking on the Languages navigation bar:

Then click on the Create a New button.

You will see the following options:

Choose the one that you want. In this example we took Poll Lang, the rest are analogous.

You will then need to give your language a name (visible only for you). This is important if you have more than one language added, so you can differentiate between them.

Then you need to provide your desired translation for all system messages and navigation buttons. Please see some examples:

Please note: If you leave a word or phrase unchanged, as “Comments” in this example, it will be shown in your poll in English.

Once you are ready, please press the Save button on the bottom of the page and you can now use this language for all your future polls, if you want to. You just need to choose “Deutsch” from the drop-down language menu in the Poll/Survey Creator or Editor.

How to Manage Your Languages

As you can see, you can Edit and Delete your languages quite easily. You just need to click on the option that you need under the language name.

 

How to Change a Poll Language

If you already have a poll created or you are in the process of creating one, you will notice the Language drop-down menu in the Poll Creator/Editor.

How to Change a Survey Language

Changing a survey language is pretty much the same as changing a poll language.

If you already have a survey created or you are in the process of creating one, you will notice the Language drop-down menu in the Survey Creator/Editor.

If you already have a language added, then just choose it:

Go back to your dashboard, press Edit under your survey, go again to the Languages drop-down menu and you will see your newly added language there. You may now choose it.

Share Your Account

If you have an account with addpoll.com, you are already one of our users. Being our user means that you can take advantage of all fantastic features that we offer!

But this is not all. Now you can share your account with other people and give them the permissions that you want to.

How can you do this? You simply need to add new users.

How to add new users?

First, go to the Users navigation bar:

There you will see the following screen:

Press the Add a new user button.

You have two options here – to add an already registered with us user or to invite a Guest user – a person who does not have an account with addpoll.com.

 

 

1) Adding users who already have an account with addpoll.com

Let’s review the first option. If you want to add an user that already has an account with us, you just need to enter their e-mail address.

Then you need to choose if you want this person to have Manager or Administrator permissions.

If you give the new user Manager permissions, they will be able to do everything that you can do, except for deleting content. They will be able to edit everything on your dashboard and styles, though.

If you grant the new user Administrator permissions, you will be conceding all your rights to the new user, including the permission to delete content.

When you have chosen what permissions you want to grant to the new user, press save and the new user will be added.

The new user will be also notified via e-mail about the granted permissions. The e-mail will look like this:

“Hello Angela, you have been allowed to access JohnSmith addpoll.com dashboard.
At your dashboard you will find a drop-down menu from where you can switch to the dashboard of other user.”

2) Adding Guest users (users who do not have an account with addpoll.com)

Now let’s have a look at the second option and see how you can share your account with a Guest user – a person, who does not have an account with addpoll.com

Go to the Guest user tab and fill in the short form:

You need again to choose Manager or Administrator permissions and click on the Save button in order to add the new user.

Please note: The user will be notified via e-mail about the given access, but the password will not be sent with the notification. You will need to give the password to the new user personally.

The e-mail notification that the user will receive will look like this:

“Hello Barbara, you have been allowed to access JohnSmith addpoll.com dashboard.
Click on the address to confirm that you accept the given rights.”

How to manage your users?

Now let’s go back to your Users dashboard and see what further options you have for the Users that you have created or how you can manage them from now on.7

 

 

As you can see, you can Edit and Delete your added users quite easily.

 

User permissions are available for all accounts. You can add 1 new user if you have a free account and 10 new users if you have an Extra or Pro account!

Create a Poll

Creating a poll with addpoll.com is quick and easy.

While you’re at your dashboard, click on the Start New button:

A new window will appear. Choose your option. In this case pick poll.

Now you are in the Poll Creator.

Enter the question in the title field. Enter possible answers under the title.

If you would like to add additional answers you can click on the Add new answer button.

If you want to allow the participants to add their own answers, activate the checkbox in front of Allow users to enter their own answer.

 

 

 

 

You can add media to your answer fields.

You can do so by clicking on the media button next to the answer field which you would like to attach media to. You can upload images and audio files from your computer or enter a direct web url link.
If you would like to add a video from a popular video sharing website (Youtube, Vimeo, Hulu, Facebook etc…), click on Embed and then just paste the video sharing code.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The next step is to choose the type of buttons you would like on your poll. Choose the one you like best:

You can also choose a different Language for the system messages and buttons of your poll.

Here you can activate the option Close after a certain date  simply by putting a tick at the  checkbox. You then just need to specify the certain date and time and the survey will close automatically. Please check How to make sure that a survey or poll will close at a specific time?

On the right hand side of the title and answer fields you can find some advanced options. Now we’ll go over each one and discover what they do.

Flash Poll – If you activate this option, your poll will automatically turn into flash. If you deactivate the option, the poll will go back to simple javascript. The option is available to allow you to change the type of your poll at any time.
Password protection – if you activate this option your poll will be seen only by password. Only people with the password will be able to see the poll.

Captcha – if you activate this option, only respondents who enter the two words in the Captcha image correctly, will be allowed to submit their answers.

Voting protection – A very important option. Using this option you can prevent cheating. We recommend always using block by IP + Cookie as it is the most effective use against cheating.

Voting protection time – Decide the time interval until people who have voted already, are able to vote again.

Results – Decide if you would like to make the results of the poll private (visible only for you) and if you want the results to be shown only in percentage.

Comments – Activate or Deactivate comments. You can also decide if you would like to be able to review and approve every single comments before publishing.

SharingHere you can choose to allow or disallow the sharing of your poll on social networking sites, using small buttons located just below the poll.

Poll style

You can pick a pre-made design from our templates. You can also create your own custom design. Head over to styles in the poll creator and use the drop down menu to narrow down your style. Please also check How to Change the Style of a Poll or Survey.

 Then just click Save and Continue and voila! Your first poll is ready!

Set Up a Custom Domain

WIth addpoll you can set up your custom domain.
First you need to decide what you want your subdomain to be. If your website is www.yoursite.com then you might choose research.yoursite.com, for example.

Then you need to create a CNAME DNS record to your hosting or domain name registered for the subdomain of your choice and point it to private.addpoll.com

How to enable custom domain

1) Go to http://www.addpoll.com/profile/domain.

2) Click on enable domain and on domain field enter the address that you created, e.g. research.yoursite.com. You can also include a Google Maps Api Key.  Below you will find additional design options like uploading your Logo and including Header and Footer Html.

3) Click Save.

4) Now go to Dashboard and click on Get code click under one of your surveys or forms to get your new address.

How to create a CNAME 

Creating CNAME (GoDaddy)

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
3. Do one of the following:

• From the Tools menu, select DNS Manager, and then click Edit Zone for the domain name you want to update.
• Click the domain name you want to update, and, in the DNS Manager section, click Launch.

How to add a CNAME Record

1. Go to the Zone File Editor for the domain name you want to update.
2. Click Add New Record. The Add DNS Record window displays.
3. From the Record type list, select CNAME (Alias).
4. Complete the following fields:
Enter an Alias Name — Enter the subdomain name for the alias assignment. For example, type www.
Points to Host Name — Enter the host name you want the alias to point to. For example, type @ to map the alias directly to your domain name.
TTL — Select how long the server should cache the information.

5. Click OK.
6. Click Save Zone File, and then click OK. The new CNAME record displays in the CNAME (Alias) section.

How to edit a CNAME Record

1. Go to the Zone File Editor for the domain name you want to update.
2. In the CNAME (Alias) section, click the CNAME record you want to edit.
3. Edit any of the following fields:
